چکیده

Abstract Angiosperms may be distinguished from their gymnosperm peers by flowers, and thus a flower is good proxy of fossil angiosperms. However, flowers parts are usually too frail to preserved in the record. This makes origin angiosperms foci controversy botany. Eliminating such botanical controversies can only achieved studying related plant fossils. Applying routine scanning electron microscopy, light microscopy micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) technologies, we document bud, Florigerminis jurassica gen. et sp. nov., Jurassic Inner Mongolia, China. includes not leafy branch but also physically connected fruit bud. The developmentally interpolated existence blooming between bud mature suggests that angiosperm were present Jurassic, agreement with recent progress. underscores presence demands rethinking evolution.

A perfect flower from the Jurassic of China

Flower, enclosed ovule and tetrasporangiate anther are three major characters distinguishing angiosperms from other seed plants. Morphologically, typical flowers are characterised by an organisation with gynoecium and androecium surrounded by corolla and calyx. Theoretically, flowers are derived from their counterparts in ancient ancestral gymnosperms. However, as for when, how and from which g...

Flower Development: From Bud to Bloom

In many commercial cut flowers, particularly those with spike or compound inflorescences, postharvest life and quality are highly dependent on the continued development of small buds to open blooms. Buds may be separated into two major types – those enclosed by a calyx, where petal growth is largely complete before the calyx opens or is shed, and those where the petals are naked and expand rapi...

The Late Jurassic taxon is neotenic and represented by exceptionally preserved specimens, including fully articulated cranial and ...

Jurassic mimicry between a hangingfly and a ginkgo from China.

A near-perfect mimetic association between a mecopteran insect species and a ginkgoalean plant species from the late Middle Jurassic of northeastern China recently has been discovered. The association stems from a case of mixed identity between a particular plant and an insect in the laboratory and the field. This confusion is explained as a case of leaf mimesis, wherein the appearance of the m...
